Rubrics and Capacity Matrices
Rubrics and Capacity Matrices: As schools work toward Student Directed Learning, providing students with the tools to independently assess their learning becomes a priority. In order to achieve this, teachers have begun the development and implementation of rubrics and capacity matrices. Rubrics and capacity matrices allow students to assess how well they are doing, as well as track their progress in mastering the standard they are working on.
Goal Setting, Monitoring, and Celebrating: Goal Setting is an important part of Personalized Learning. Students and teachers work together to set academic and behavioral goals in order to improve student achievement empowering them to be more motivated and active participants in their learning. In setting goals, the student understands what they want to achieve and how they are going to get there. Throughout the process, the student monitors their progress with their teacher making modifications as needed. Once a student achieves their goal, their success is celebrated and the student sets new goals to achieve.
Unpacking Standards: A key component of a transparent curriculum is actively engaging students in the process of unpacking standards. Providing students with the tools necessary to unpack the standards allows them to fully understand what is expected of them and what they are working towards.
