In Lake County Schools, a public school district in central Florida with 48 learning sites and approximately 42,000 students, we have been moving toward personalized learning for students since 2005, when we were awarded our first Enhancing Education through Technology II (EETT II) grant. With the first grant of $750,000, and moving forward through our most recent EETT award in 2010 for $1.5 million, our focus has continually been twofold: first, to provide technology tools for our students and teachers; and second, to provide professional development for our teachers to ensure that the technology is used in innovative ways. Our goal has always been to help our classrooms become centers of inquiry, exploration, and rigorous learning for our students.
